Nagykanizsa secures first win with triple play on a rainy day

07:32 AM

It was not a perfect day for baseball but most of the Interleague teams managed to play two last Saturday. During the week forecast predicted heavy rain for whole Saturday but teams were lucky enough to start games without rain, however all of them ended up in rain.

Split in Bratislava, with both teams in the race for playoff spots. Óbuda started strong in the first game, giving plenty of run support to starter Zsolt Zalabai, who cruised through the Apollo lineup giving up 4 hits while striking out 14 in a complete game. Óbuda offense collected 11 hits: leadoff hitter Péter Lupták hit a two run shot in the ninth and had two singles earlier driving in 4 runs. Roberto Morua, Xiabo Xiong and Csaba Goór had 2 hits each, Morua also batted in 3 runs.

In game two Óbuda played lousy defense committing 5 errors, Apollo scored 8 runs but only two of those were earned. Apollo second baseman Jaroslav Kosna had to doubles and scored two runs and catcher Alexander Vaclavik had one single, scored two runs, drove in two. Péter Lupták again led the Óbuda offense with two hits and one run, József Andó also had two hits including a double.

With its injury depleted roster Rascals team could play competetive in game one against Spiders, but could not win it. Rascals pitcher Krisztián Nagy logged a complete game, but the defense behind him commited errors in crucial 2 out situations. Nagy gave up 7R, 3 ER, he also stuck out 8 Spidermen, while giving up 6 hits and 4 base on balls.

Slovan Spiders collected another 2 wins this weekend improving to 6-0 for the season and remained the on the top of the ranking as the only unbeaten team in the league. However Spiders had the easiest schedule so far, they played all teams in the bottom of the rankings but have yet to meet the top teams of the league.

Sleepwalkers are fighting for a playoff spot so they were in must win situation against lower ranked Flies. The first game ended with the mercy rule but in the second game Sleepwalkers fell behind and turned with a 6-2 deficit into the 4th inning. The rain was pouring hard and it was for certain that the game will not be played for 7 full innings. Sleepwalkers changed gears and scored 10 in the top of the inning to resize the lead. Masaharu pitched 3 innings and earned the win, Imre Illés and Balázs Halmos had two hits and two RBIs. Flies SS Peter Nitschneider hit a double and a triple and drove in three  and CF Lucas Kralik drove in 2 runs with a single.

Ants needed a win desperately and they fought for it in the mud for long hours. In the last inning with two on and no outs Seals might have been thinking about the rally going and a big comeback. But their hopes were earesed quickly when Ants first baseman Máté Lőcz snared a liner heading to right field down the line, stepped on first base and fired to his teammate at shortstop to complete a triple play. Game two was cancelled
