Warming up

The second tournament during the MOBSSz Winter Baseball Week took place on February 28, Sunday and was open for cadet and juvenile agegroup (age 10-15). 54 kids showed up for the tournament from 6 clubs. Érd, Óbuda, Mikepércs and Jánossomorja arrived with full squad, Szentendre and Nemesvámos players formed a team together fot this event. That means 5 teams were waiting for the ump to call play ball!

The game was played with specific indoor rules. All games were coach-pitched. Hitters started with 0-2 count, so you have got to hit if you wanted to stay alive which led to very intensive games. Scoring was also different from outdoor baseball. In offense teams recieved points for every base the player reached on his hit and an extra point for crossing home plate. In defense every out made scored a run for the defensive team. Games were two innings long and innings were not defined by the number of outs, but rather by time.  Each half inning was five minutes long, regardless of any outs being made.

Tournement was played in round robin format. The teams not playing had the chance to train their skills or play other sports in the smaller gym of the beautiful facility (www.aisb.hu). It was good to see that lot of parents showed up with the kids too. Everyone had fun, enjoyed the day, there were loud cheers for every homerun and nice defensive actions.

10 games, 1260 points and 240 minutes later Team Érd was crowned as the first indoor youth baseball champions of Hungary! During the trophy ceremony kids were even more zinged up as Batman showed up to present the trophy to the winning team and he was also very friendly and posed for some pictures with the kids too!

Everyone left the event with a smile on his face, the tournament was the prefect closure of the 9 days long Indoor Training week of the Hungarian Federation. To be continued next winter!

Indoor Slowpitch Softball Tournament 2010

12:19 AM

indoorsoftballThe first Indoor Softball Tournament took place during the MOBSSz Winter Training Week in Nagykovácsi. Some of the players cancelled just before the event for various reasons, but still 26 players showed up from 5 different clubs to play some ball. The organizers formed 3 teams, Jászberény Stinky Sox had 5-5 players in Team A and B, and the roster of both teams were filled up with other individually registered players. The third team was the Szentendre Sleepwalkers. Teams played a round-robin and after that  the Top 2 teams played a final game. The final between Jászberény B and Sleepwalkers was a nailbiter, the teams were head-to-head till the end. But at the end Jászberény B got the lead and was able to hold onto it and took the championship! Congrats to them!
